Welcome to Second Grade!!

How does the second grade measure up? In math, we are learning about the U.S. Customary  System and Metric System.  Ask your child to help measure and weigh things when helping you in the kitchen.

We are anxiously looking forward to starting our science unit, New Plants.  We will be planting vegetable seeds inside the classroom, which will later be transported to the gardens in the courtyard.  We will also have our own garden inside.  Using a grow light, we will watch for germination, condensation and growth.

Get ready to be persuaded.  Our final unit in writing will be a persuasive piece.  Students will be reading and discussing persuasive books and will also be creating projects to support their opinion on a topic.

Lastly, biographies are the focus in Social Studies.  Students will be employing research skills to become knowledgeable about famous Americans.

Our second graders have grown throughout the year and have blossomed into wonderful researchers, mathematicians, and authors.  We would like to thank all of the parents for their support and we look forward to our exciting year-end activities.
