GYM CLASS
PHYSICAL EDUCATION
!!!Welcome to the 2007-2008 Year in Physical Education!!!
Our first 20 days of school here at Stony will include a school-wide project. Grades K-5, 1-3, & 2-4 will be working together on various strategies to ensure a successful and outstanding year in areas of citizenship, friendship, responsibility, and respect.
The Physical Education
Classes will also support the school-wide project with cooperative movement
education activities. These activities involve teamwork and communication with
classmates and will allow our classes to build a solid foundation to start the
year with each other. In addition to the
above areas, team building, communication, and problem solving are very
important in school, sports, children playing together, and everyday life.
The main emphasis of the Kindergarten will be spatial awareness and body control activities utilizing gross motor skills. Additional emphasis is placed with the these children with skills involving jogging, running, galloping, leaping, and especially skipping. Along with these aspects, social elements of play, cooperation, and socialization during in-class activities will be addressed.
This year in Physical Education Class we will continue to incorporate terminology related to health, fitness, diet, and exercise. These terms impact children not only now, but also as they grow through the elementary years. Programs such as Apple Crunch Day, running club, intramurals, and other exciting fitness opportunities will enhance healthy habits for kids. I am confident that the example I set in our school can and will make a difference in our children here at Stony Creek.
Warm Regards to All
